Doug Merz, Owner & President
Doug Merz, RPT is owner of Merz Physical Therapy which has provided services to The Marsh and its surrounding community since 1994. He specializes in acute biomechanical assessment and prescription of safe, effective therapeutic exercise protocols to help patients manage their conditions independently.
Using the resources at The Marsh, Doug has also developed an active network of alternative medical practitioners in the Metro area to help meet the needs of those suffering from chronic conditions. Often, Doug utilizes Iyengar based yoga with his patients to help them maintain their wellness.
Doug has a special interest in the ankle/foot complex and its influence on the lower kinetic chain. He provides consultation services to physical therapists and clinics in the Metro area regarding this complex and its evaluation and treatment.
Pre-Physical Therapy experience includes two years in the Peace Corps in Honduras and five years working with The Menninger Foundation for emotionally challenged adolescents. Doug currently volunteers for the We Can Ride Corporation providing therapeutic horse back riding lessons to physically and mentally challenged adults and children.
Jessica Horne, Physical Therapist
Jessica is a MN licensed physical therapist at Merz PT. She joined the Merz team in 2013 following 2 years of work experience in an outpatient Neuro rehab. She graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree in 2011. Jessica enjoys treating patients across the lifespan for a variety of orthopedic, neurologic, post-operative and vestibular conditions. She remains committed to her professional development through continuing education, including coursework in proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation; postural restoration; spinal evaluation and manipulation; and vestibular dysfunction. Jessica aims to provide a thorough assessment and comprehensive treatment to impact healing and encourage return to function. She values an individualized, well-rounded treatment approach which includes a combination of manual therapy techniques, corrective exercise and patient education.
Kelly Brouwer, Physical Therapist
Kelly is a Wisconsin native, completing her undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, with a degree in athletic training in 2006. After spending a year working as an outreach athletic trainer, she enrolled at The University of Iowa and completed her doctorate of physical therapy in 2009. She worked in both sports medicine and workman’s compensation settings until settling at Merz Physical Therapy in 2013. Kelly has a passion for learning and has taken advanced coursework through The Institute of Physical Art, The University of St. Augustine, Gray Cook, and Kineticore, earning a level 1 and 2 certification in Functional Dry Needling. She is especially interested in advanced manual therapy techniques, functional exercise and dry needling. She views her practice as an opportunity to empower her patients through movement education while maximizing their independence and overall wellness.
